The ADVANCE Study

Help for Heroes is proud to support The ADVANCE Study, a ground-breaking research programme which aims to investigate the long-term medical and psycho-social outcomes of battlefield casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan (2001-2014).

It is hoped that the results of the 20-year study will help support our future injured servicemen and women and their medical and healthcare providers to plan the best care possible, in order to ensure these deserving men and women are not forgotten, both during and after their transition into civilian life.

The study is funded Help for Heroes, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Libor Fund.

The ADVANCE study is looking for participants who fit the following criteria: 

• UK Armed Services Personnel, either Veteran or currently serving (essential) 
• Male (essential) 
• Aged 18-49 (essential)
• Deployed to Iraq and/or Afghanistan between 2001 and 2014 (essential)
• Sustained physical battlefield trauma whilst on deployment with aeromedical evacuation and direct UK hospital admission 
• Uninjured personnel who fit the above-mentioned "essential" criteria are also encouraged to apply 

Those who take part in this ADVANCE Study will be asked to make an appointment with Headley Court to undergo a series of tests (pulse, blood pressure, blood sample, lung function, bone density, hearing test, mobility assessment) and to fill in a questionnaire about their health and quality of life. 

Individuals will each receive £100 as thanks for their participation, and any travel/accommodation expenses will also be reimbursed (please produce receipts).
